Rincon de la Vieja National Park

Good Evening from Villa Huetares.

Today, after a delicious breakfast of pancakes and fruit – mango, pineapple, and watermelon, we headed out by bus to Rincon de la Vieja National Park to hike and explore one of Costa Rica’s natural wonders. We saw boiling sulfuric mud pots, morpho butterflies, and even caught another glimpse of the elusive Capuchin monkey. We spent the morning on a nature walk learning about the local geology and ecology of the area, ate a picnic lunch back at the ranger station, and then headed out for a challenging hike to a gorgeous waterfall. The cool, crisp water provided a refreshing break for the sweaty hikers and was a beautiful backdrop for many photos. Upon arrival back to the villa, we organized the first annual Greco-English-Spanish spelling bee complete with prizes. Nicholas, David, and Ben S. stood tall on the international podium of winners. Ben S. correctly spelled bacteriology for the win. Another amazing day in the life of a Putney Foundations traveler.
